Foundation for a Dutch Global Health Strategy
The government announced in its coalition agreement that it would develop a Dutch Global Health Strategy. This is a positive step, as the alarming experiences with the COVID-19 pandemic and global inequality in access to healthcare and healthcare services have shown once more that existing global health policy is inadequate. However, a Global Health Strategy is only likely to succeed if the Netherlands aligns its priorities with those of the World Health Organization (WHO) and is prepared to promote global health in the broadest sense.
These are the conclusions of the advisory report ‘Foundation for a Dutch Global Health Strategy’, which the Advisory Council for International Affairs has produced at the request of the House of Representatives. The AIV’s report also proposes building blocks for a Dutch global strategy, as requested by the House.
