The Will of the People? The Erosion of Democracy under the Rule of Law in Europe

In Europe there is growing alienation among citizens themselves and between the general public and the political establishment. People are retreating behind national borders, and some are even prepared to call into question the democratic rights and freedoms of those who disagree with their views. In a number of European countries (such as Hungary, Poland, Russia and Turkey) democracy under the rule of law is in the danger zone.
