The Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflicts: Well-trodden Paths and New Ways Forward

The conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Libya have caused immense suffering among the civilian population. In this advisory report the AIV examines why international law and military missions are unable to offer adequate protection to civilians in armed conflicts. Greater compliance with international law and more effective military missions are required. New ways need to be found and more needs to be done to prevent conflicts.
