Deployment of Rapid-Reaction Forces

The growing instability on the edge of Europe has increased the need for deployment of armed forces – including rapid-reaction forces. Mutual dependence among the members of the EU and NATO in the area of defence has risen sharply. That is especially true of the Netherlands, which has embarked on close defence partnerships with a number of European countries. In the AIV’s view the concept and set-up of the EU Battlegroups needs to be changed.
