The Netherlands and the Arab Region: A Principled and Pragmatic Approach
In this advisory report the AIV argues that only a pragmatic approach will get results in the Netherlands’ consultations with countries in the Arab region. Dutch policy based solely on conditions of principle mostly harms aid recipients in those countries. The process of reforming a political system requires patience and can take several generations. Western governments and parliaments need to bear this in mind when formulating their foreign policy objectives.
