The Netherlands and the European Parliament: Investing in a New Relationship

In the report, ‘The Netherlands and the European Parliament (EP): Investing in a New Relationship’ the AIV observes that with the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon on 1 December 2009, the EP became a powerful institution. If the Netherlands wants to turn this to its advantage, it has to invest in a better relationship with the EP and acknowledge its crucial function in the political debate. Only then can the Netherlands obtain more influence on European decision-making, and only then will the EP gain the trust of the Dutch people.
