The Receptor Approach: A Question of Weight and Measure

In this advisory letter, produced at the request of the House of Representatives, the AIV notes that the concept of the receptor approach is not new. The Minister states that he will continue to employ the full range of policy instruments. The AIV supports this approach but has questions. Too strong a focus in human rights policy on local culture and traditional social institutions could marginalise victims of human rights violations involving traditional cultural practices. In the AIV’s view, the key issue is therefore how these instruments are balanced and measured.
