The Eastern Partnership

The AIV takes a positive view of the European Commission’s proposals of December 2008 and the special attention it is paying to the EU’s eastern neighbours. The AIV believes the Eastern Partnership opens up the possibility of multilateral cooperation, whereas the European Neighbourhood Policy was geared only toward bilateral cooperation. The AIV is critical of the insistence of both the Dutch government and the European Commission that there is currently no prospect of the countries in question acceding to the EU.
