An Ombudsman for Development Cooperation

In this advisory letter, the AIV calls for an Ombudsman for development cooperation. Development efforts could benefit from an independent external complaints mechanism. Such an arrangement would enhance both the transparency and quality of aid. To this end the Netherlands could make a start in this area with regard to its own development cooperation policy. The AIV further proposes that the Netherlands experiment within the OECD (the international organisation made up of wealthy nations) with the idea of a ‘Multilateral Ombudsman’.
