The European Union’s New Eastern Neighbours

In the AIV’s view the EU has an interest in security and stability on its eastern borders, and in developing good economic relations with its eastern neighbours. Ukraine and Moldova have made accession to the Union a foreign policy priority. This represents an opportunity for the EU to actively stimulate political and economic reforms. It is essential, however, that the countries in question demonstrate that they are making significant progress and lasting reforms.
